About Jan Hendrickse

Jan Hendrickse is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and sound artist. His work crosses the boundaries of performance, installation, composition and socially-engaged practice. He has performed and exhibited in a wide variety of contexts, developing participatory projects with the Barbican Centre, the Philharmonia Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Proms, as well as directing projects in Tanzania, Gambia, Thailand and Palestine. He has been artist in residence at ACME studios in East London and John Jones Project Space gallery where he produced solo show of sound installation works. He has also been a Sound and Music shortlisted composer.

As a performer, he has appeared with a wide range of artists and ensembles including Howard Shore, Ornette Coleman, Nitin Sawhney, David Toop, The London Philharmonic Orchestra, The Ulster Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, BBC Concert Orchestra, and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. He has performed as a featured artist on numerous film scores including Lord of The Rings, Chocolat, Apocalypto, The Hunger Games and many others.

He teaches at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama where he is a research associate investigating site specific practice.
